Therapy can help provide support, insight, and practical strategies for improving your current life circumstances or relationships with others.
The first session is typically focused on getting to know you or your relationship, understanding your concerns, collaboratively agreeing on goals, and discussing what you hope to gain from therapy. It’s also an opportunity to ask questions and see if the both the therapist and client or clients feels like a good fit with each other.
Some clients benefit from short-term therapy, while others engage in longer-term counseling for deeper personal or emotional growth. The length of therapy can also depend on whether you are benefiting from your sessions with your therapist or if the circumstances that brought you to therapy have changed over time.
Most clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions. Frequency can change depending on your needs and progress made toward your goals. Some clients continue to meet on a monthly or quarterly basis to "check in" or for maintaining progress made.

Both online and in-person counseling have their advantages and disadvantages. Online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy and more convenient. In-person counseling is better suited for moderately severe to severe concerns or difficulties.
